Nicknamed "Tropic Lightning" the 25th Infantry Division was constituted on August 26, 1941 and first activated on October 1, 1941 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, in the wake of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. During World War II, the 25th participated in campaigns in the Central Pacific, Guadalcanal, Northern Solomon Islands, and Luzon, and during this time was bestowed its nickname because of the rapid way in which they achieved results. The 25th was also highly involved in action during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In more recent times, the Gulf War required the service the 25th. This coin salutes the men and women who have served in the 25th and contibuted to this highly decorated and storied division. Minted through a special process called "splash minting", this coin has the added thickness, very high relief and unsurpassed detail that are hallmark to the best execution possible of this process. Struck in a proprietary brass alloy, this coin is given an antique bronze finish, and on the obverse, enamel color accents the badge of the 25th. The reverse features an eagle design with an area for personalized engraving.
